Arendal vgs, Barbu
The roots of Arendal Upper Secondary School go back to the early 1800s. This makes us an old educational institution in the Nordic context. The school was established in the centre of town during Arendal’s heyday as a city of sailing ships.
Today, Arendal remains a dynamic, outward oriented town with many international companies, especially serving the Norwegian and global offshore sector, international organisations, such as the United Nations Environment Programme centre GRID, and many nationalities represented in its population.
Our school caters for upper secondary education for students who continue into higher education in Norway and abroad. We offer the widest choice of subjects in this field in the county of Aust-Agder. In addition to the national university preparatory program, the school offers the international university preparatory program International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a vocational program for service sector professions as well as adult education and theoretical studies for apprentices. The school also administers and arranges public examinations in the academic subjects for external candidates.
In the school year 2011-2012 Arendal Upper Secondary School has over 1,000 students and 130 employees.
Our vision is to equip our students with knowledge, skills and cultural attributes that help them thrive as individuals and make a positive difference in their local communities and in the wider world.
We work towards this vision by creating an inspiring and safe school community. In our community, students are at the centre of learning, guided by teachers of high professional standing who set expectations and provide support that bring out the best in every student.
